Bookamania 2011—a celebration of books for the whole family!

Bookamania will take place on Saturday, November 19 from 11am-3pm at the Harold Washington Library Center.
We thank Target Corporation for their generous sponsorship of Bookamania .
This day-long free celebration of books for children ages 3–10 years includes crafts, activities, performances, storytelling and much more!

Author and illustrator appearances by Eileen Christelow, Nina Crews, Robert Burleigh and Arthur Dorros. Performances by the Chicago Children's Theatre, Jabberwocky Marionettes and Kalpriya Center for Indian Performing Arts.
Saul Bellows' The Adventures of Augie March Selected for Fall 2011 One Book, One Chicago

Chicago Public Library Commissioner Mary Dempsey announced The Adventures of Augie March by Saul Bellow as the 21st One Book, One Chicago selection today at the Harold Washington Library Center.
“Saul Bellow’s The Adventures of Augie March is a quintessential Chicago novel and an excellent choice for the One Book, One Chicago program which for 10 years has brought together families, neighborhoods, and our entire city around reading,” said Mayor Emanuel. “This fall, I encourage all Chicagoans to pick up a copy of The Adventures of Augie March and explore the seedier side of early 20th century Chicago.”


Book Beats 2011 Summer Reading Program Encouraged Children, Adults to Celebrate Music and Reading!

This summer, the Chicago Public Library celebrated music with Book Beats! The 2011 Children's Summer Reading Program invited kids up to age 14 to read for fun and participate in programs including author visits and musical performers. Book Beats Summer Reads for Adults offered the chance to explore Chicago’s diverse rhythms throughout the summer through books, music, performances and more. YOUmedia Expands to Three Chicago Communities

The Harold Washington Library Center’s state-of-the-art teen digital learning center, YOUmedia, will be expanded to three neighborhood branches of the Chicago Public Library. Through federal stimulus funds to the City of Chicago and funding from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, YOUmedia will be expanded to three branch libraries to serve teens at the neighborhood level: the new Richard M. Daley-West Humboldt Branch; Pilsen’s Lozano Branch; and the Thurgood Marshall Branch in the Auburn Gresham community.

The Chicago Public Library Foundation is pleased to present Chicago Public Library 2010, a new strategic plan for Chicago's public libraries. Through extremely generous pro bono consultation from The Boston Consulting Group, the plan was jointly created by the Boards and staff of the Chicago Public Library and the Chicago Public Library Foundation.
