All of Chicago was invited to celebrate Illinois and Lincoln's big birthday with Land of Lincoln Readers and Summer Reads for Adults. Over 50,000 hildren read over 1 million books for fun, collected stickers, enjoyed programs and activities and earned a t-shirt during this summer's partnership with the Chicago History Museum.
Weekly themes included Lincoln's Love of Books, Lincoln as President, Civil War, Slavery and Freedom and Illinois Animals and Wildlife. Families read together as they explored the life and times of Lincoln, discovered Illinois praries and wildlife and learned how to make a log cabin out of pretzels.
Although Lincoln would walk miles to borrow a book, one of the Chicago Public Library's 79 locations is right in your neighborhood at your local library!
