Chicago Public Library 2010
The Chicago Public Library Foundation is pleased to present Chicago Public Library 2010 (PDF), a new strategic plan for Chicago's public libraries. Through extremely generous pro bono consultation from The Boston Consulting Group, the plan was jointly created by the Boards and staff of the Chicago Public Library and the Chicago Public Library Foundation.
The plan identifies 20 goals in four key Areas of Strength upon which the institution will build, and 10 goals in three Areas of New Strategic Opportunity. The implementation of the identified goals will chart the course of the Chicago Public Library over the next five years and beyond, as the Library adapts to the dynamic role of the public library in the lives of all Chicagoans. The priorities and strategies outlined in the report will also serve to inform and guide the Foundation's decisions on high-impact program investments.
Through the Chicago Public Library Foundation, almost $17.5 million in private funding has been provided over the past 20 years to expand library service hours, help implement state of the art technology in all libraries and introduce nationally acclaimed collections, services and programs that attract new and larger audiences to Chicago's libraries each day.
Chicago Public Library 2010 builds on this strong and proud history and on the Chicago Public Library Foundation's steadfast belief in the Library's mission to ensure the freedom of all people, of all backgrounds, to read, to learn and to discover, through the collections, programs and outreach initiatives of the Chicago Public Library.
